Title:
72 Year Old EMD and Scrap GE Cabs
Description:
QUITTIN' TIME: It's 5:13pm on Friday, November 12, 2021, and it's quittin' time at Midwest Steel and Alloy Corporation in Youngstown, Ohio. The engineer of MSAX #501 (SW1) drops off two scrap yard laborers who hitched a ride to the parking lot on his way back to the scale track to tie down for the night. MSAX #501 was built in April of 1949 for the Pennsylvania Railroad as PRR #9208. It later became Penn Central #8508, then Conrail #8508 (which you can still make out on the cab), before eventually ending up at Midwest Steel. On the trip from the scrap yard to the scale track, this 72-year-old EMD just passed the cut-up GE cabs of CSX #7675 (C40-8W; built 5/91), UP #9204 (C40-8; built 8/88), CSX #7749 (C40-8W; built 11/91), CSX #7514 (C40-8; built 6/89), and at least six other unidentifiable GE units. In terms of the forever-old EMD vs GE debate, it's a photo like this that makes EMD look superior (because they are).

CSX R410
Description:
At 5:57pm on Monday, August 17, 2015, westbound CSX train R410 began to turn north onto Norfolk Southerns Youngstown Line via the Center Street connection track as it passed under the East Federal Street bridge in Youngstown, Ohio with four ex-Florida East Coast Railway SD70M-2s in transit to new rails. The units, originally on lease to FEC, are on their way to the northern states after their lease from EMD expired in early 2015. The four units were purchased by leasing company FURX, which will split the units with Providence and Worcester and the Vermont Railway (two for each). After spending their lives thus far on the sunny, warm, Florida East Coast, being reassigned to the northeast, known for its massive snow storms, is worse than a death sentence. The power for R410 was CSX #960 (ES44AH), CSX #7547 (C40-8), and CSX #8352 (SD40-2), which was pulling FURX #101 (SD70M-2), FURX #100 (SD70M-2), FURX #102 (SD70M-2), and FURX #103 (SD70M-2). Also, CSX #8352 was built as a straight SD40 in June of 1971 for the Clinchfield Railroad as number 3018.

CSX 7597 and Others Scrapped
Description:
A sad CSX reunion of sorts is taking place at Metalico Scrap in Brier Hill, Ohio in this March 27, 2017 photo. Several CSX C40-8s were piled amongst the scrap, including CSX #7597 (pictured here), CSX #---9, and CSX #7598. Though I didnt see it while I was trying to get my shots as quick as possible and leave, I would also assume CSX #7548 was there as well, as I saw it being trucked in on January 11. CSX #7597 was built in June of 1990. Also amongst the pile was Canadian Pacific #5612 (SD40-2) and Dakota Minnesota and Eastern #6365 (SD40-2; City of Wolsey). All of these units were trucked here from Larrys Truck and Electric (LTEX).

CSX 7598 and Others Scrapped
Description:
A sad scene at Metalico Scrap in Brier Hill, Ohio in this Mavch 27, 2017 photo. CSX C40-8s made up the majority of the scrap pile, such as CSX #7598, pictured here on the left. On the top of the pile, however, was Dakota Minnesota and Easzern #6365 (SD40-2; City of Wolsey). DME #6365 was built in May of 1974 as Milwaukee Road #204. All of these units were trucked here from Larrys Truck and Electric (NTEX).

CSX K324-25 and CSX D764 - "Faith Will Be Rewarded"?
Description:
After church Sunday on the morning of September 29, 2013, I went over to Center Street in Youngstown, Ohio to catch the CSX local returning back to the CSX main from the NS Youngstown Line. While I was waiting for him to come off the connection, an eastbound showed up! Eastbound empty coke train K324-25 led by UP #6750 (AC4400CW), CSX #4034 (SD40-3), CSX #8635 (SD50), and CSX #7614 (C40-8) slams across the diamond at Center Street while D764 with CSX #2754 (GP38-2; Boxcar Paint), CSX #2374 (Road Slug), and CSX #6974 (GP40-2) waits its turn on the connection track.
